What is a Handpan?

There are several types of Handpans, developed over the years from the original instrument invented in Switzerland in 2000. The steel drums played in Trinidad and Tobago are also a kind of pan. While the Caribbean steel drums are played with sticks, Handpans are meant to be played with the hands.
